HAWKER M. JAMES (EX-LONGWAVE) PREMIERED BRAND NEW SINGLE “MANIFEST DESTINY” VIA AMERICAN SONGWRITER

TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE EVERY FULL MOON

FULL LENGTH RELEASE BY END-OF-YEAR ENTITLED “PHASES”

Last Sunday, on the full moon, Hawker M. James (formerly Mike James/Mikey Jukebox, mastermind behind Admirers and The Mercies, one-time Longwave drummer), a prolific singer/songwriter known in part for his DIY production ethic, released a brand new single entitled “Manifest Destiny” exclusively with American Songwriter. A new single will be released on the full moon of each month and this will be the third of 12 tracks to be placed on a full-length album entitled Phases to be released by Ardent Music at the end of the year.

The new track echoes Bowie’s “Life On Mars” mixed with a little Big Star and Brian Wilson.  Says Hawker (formerly Mike James/Mikey Jukebox, mastermind behind Admirers and The Mercies, one-time Longwave drummer), “Sometimes I write these unadulterated singer songwriter bits, that I really like but never release. They make up a decent part of my writing. I feel like at this point I’m free, and “secure” enough in my songwriting to show this kind of thing. It’s certainly an extension of my Schmilsson, Hunky Dory, #1 Record obsessions. Maybe even some Noel Gallagher schmaltzin’…”

On last January’s full moon, Hawker M. James, released “These Hands Are Made Of Fire a pure indie rock track with just a hint of Manic Street Preachers and Guided By Voices.  Last month, Hawker released “I Need Your Love!” co-written with former Longwave bandmate Steve Schiltz and was exclusively premiered on Buzznet.

Hawker M. James is the brainchild of Mike James, who first came to recognition as the drummer in Longwave during their peak of popularity and critical buzz (from late 2001 to early 2004).  James was asked to join Longwave by bandleader and childhood friend Steve Schiltz.  Prior to joining Longwave, however, Mike had amassed a large body of his own material. He has always been highly active as a home recordist and continues to be so today.  James has led and fronted several solo-driven acts before and after Longwave, including The Mercies and Mikey Jukebox — both of which have charted on indie charts and had songs featured on hit TV shows including CommunityGossip GirlNew GirlBen & KateUp All NightRavenswood, and the film “The Secret Lives of Dorks.”  James also plays drums and produces The Demos and most recently the leader of Admirers.
