~Haunted Attractions Season Extends Through Friday, November 13~
WINNETKA, Ill., Nov. 2, 2015 After an action-packed Halloween season spent fighting off brain-eating zombies and narrowly escaping the clutches of clowns gone wrong, visitors to some of the scariest haunted attractions can continue to enjoy the dark thrills of the season for several more weeks thanks to the creatively creepy efforts of members of the Haunted Attractions Association (HAA), the only official association in the haunt industry.
While the haunting season traditionally lasts from Labor Day through Halloween, popular demand and strong industry growth has led to many of Americas haunts keeping their (trap) doors open to the public for several weeks, this year incorporating the eerie-factor of a Friday the 13th in November. With demand higher than ever, many of our members decided it made sense to extend the season beyond Halloween said John Eslich, President of HAA. The fact that Friday the 13th follows Halloween so closely, it was an ideal time to pair a notoriously superstitious day with some of these terrifying haunt experiences.
Below is a sampling of haunts that will continue with their bone-chilling ways beyond Halloween:
Frightland (Middletown, DE) Open through November 7
Located just a short drive from Philadelphia, Frightland offers 8 unique haunted attractions such as spooky hayrides on a sprawling 1300 acre farm, as well as a full amusement park filled with rides, carnival food and games. This year, they celebrated their 19th season frightening guests from all over the country.
Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia, PA) Open through November 7
Terror Behinds the Walls is a massive haunted house featuring six attractions inside a real abandoned prison. Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but now is home to one of the most terrifying locales in the world. To celebrate its 25th season of scare, Terror Behind the Walls unveiled the most ambitious redesign in the history of the event with two groundbreaking new attractions, including Quarantine 4D and Break Out. Taking place on November 6 and 7 is REMIX: Lights Out, the final two show nights of the season. With the light from just a single glow stick, visitors will be left to find their own way out of the pitch-black, narrow back hallways of the 11-acre penitentiary.
Wisconsin Fear Grounds (Waukesha, WI) Open through November 13
The largest haunted attraction in the state and located just outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Fear Grounds is comprised of three separate Haunted Houses, in addition to the new escape room — Morganas Escape. Each house has its own theme, from a den of Horror to a CarnEvil of Torment. The haunt industry is no longer a part time endeavor; says Anne Marie Gavinski, owner of the 55,000-square-foot attraction. The most successful attractions are working on their events 365 days a year in order to meet our customers expectations. On Friday, November 13, Wisconsin Fear Grounds will host the Legendary Haunt Tour, an organized group that each year visits two to three attractions deemed legendary by the industry, media and public. Tours include transportation, dinner, tickets to the haunted houses and access to an after party.
Factory of Terror (Canton, OH) Open through November 13
Victims are invited into the 160,000 square-foot-abandoned factory occupied by ghouls, devils and other creatures filled with blood, guts and gore. The journey begins in the Asylum, containing the first mirror gaze constructed for the Halloween season in the United States. If the mirrors decide to savor the visitors mind, theyll have to survive the Industrial Nightmare, Labyrinth of Darkness, Massacre of Mahoning and House of Nightmares.
Field of Screams (Lancaster County, PA) Open through November 14
Located on a 35-acre family farm in Mountville, Field of Screams is a one-stop shop to satisfy the craving for fear while experiencing high impact attractions. Offerings include the Haunted Hayride, the Den of Darkness Haunted Mansion, the Frightmare Asylum Haunted Hospital and the Nocturnal Wasteland Haunted Trail. This year, Field of Screams will be hosting a special event entitled Extreme Blackout! during which the lights will be turned down and the intensity will be cranked up. All attractions will be open and operating in pitch black. The Haunted Hayride and Nocturnal Wasteland will also be offering special twists for the one-night only event. For guests that are able to recover from the blackout, Field of Scream will also be hosting its 3rd annual Zombie Fun Run 5K on November 14, when thousands of runners and zombies will take part in the fun run, packed with obstacles.
Creepy Hollow Haunted House (Rosharon, Texas) Open through November 14
A perennial favorite among haunt enthusiasts, Creepy Hollow Haunted House is known for its intense offerings. Known for its unique sets that incorporate zombies, freaks and the walking dead, Creepy Holly Haunted House will host a Day of the Dead Weekend November 6-7 and a Blackout Weekend November 13-14.
Shocktoberfest (Reading, PA) Open through November 14
Pennsylvanias Premier Haunted Scream Park features some of the most amazing and unique haunted experiences in the industry such as the Prison of the Dead, a horrifying 50,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor condemned prison compound; the Zombie Revenge Haunted Hayride including the Zombie Paintball Hayride where visitors can shoot real Zombies; the Unknown 2.0 phobia haunted house, which uses cinematic 3D effects; Club Shock, a haunted night club for private parties; The Zombie Experiences where visitors are transformed into a Zombie; the Zombie Night Run where visitors will run for their life from the blood thirsty Zombies; the almost Naked and Scared Challenge where guests can go through the haunted house in nothing but underwear offering almost zero protection and finally the Monster Midway, complete with scare zones, shows, bands, games and food. Luckily for those perpetually in need of a good scare, the Prison of the Dead Escape room experience will be open year-round.
