In Time For Father’s Day
With the approach of Father’s Day and Black Music Month during the 4 weeks of June, DoubleXXposure presents a heartfelt message in the celebration of both!
Breakout artist Haley Smith stirs your soul with her vocals, yet the back story and emotional underpinning to her new song-arriving just in time for Father’s Day-comes from a place of both pain, and her undying love. On May 21, 2014 there was a disturbing news story in the Bronx of a man who was murdered at 8:30 in the morning in front of an elementary school.
The victim, Lamont Smith, left behind three children, including a 5 year old son and his 13 year old daughter, Haley. As an aspiring singer, her gift continued to shine in spite of enduring the loss of her dad. After the night’s winning performance at the Apollo just weeks after her father’s death, she showed her community both her talent and her strength.
Her new track, “I Miss My Daddy” was recorded a few weeks afterward, with the guidance, pen, and production talents of Chas Bronxson. During the late 80’s as a teen prodigy himself, Chäs wrote, produced, and performed promos for all the hot NYC radio DJ’s, most notably for DJ Red Alert, Fred Buggs & Ed Lover & Dr. Dre’s ‘Morning Show’ to name a few. As a songwriter, Chäs placed in the top ten of EMI’s 1997 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for hip-hop and won grand prize in the 1999 contest for R&B as just a few of his accomplishments in the industry.
After the ‘I Miss My Daddy’ project, Chäs will release his ‘Group H.U.G.S.’ project: A concept album that celebrates all the pioneer groups of R&B and discusses the politics of radio. This project {like the ‘I Miss My Daddy’ project} will debut on Shot 97 as we approach Black Music Month this June.
Bronxson states that he recognized that although the subject matter covers a girl missing the presence of her father who is alive – when Haley sang the words, ‘I Miss My Daddy’, she was feeling it on a level that resonates far deeper. If there’s ever a time when you explore the pain that daughters specifically feel with the absence of their father, this song will hit home.
Haley Smith also now available as a guest on panels and in forums where her healing messages can be shared. She has since completed a soon to be released video for the song featuring her own interpretation of this sensitive subject, that audiences are sure to find inspirational.
To date, Haley has released two singles: an original entitled, “Safe Place” and “Silent Night” (Rendition) which are available for purchase and streaming on all digital platforms like ITunes, Amazon, Tidal, IHeart Radio, Spotify etc.
