Women’s Film Series: Girl Rising – March 19

Girl Rising is a groundbreaking feature film about the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to transform societies. The film presents the remarkable stories of nine girls around the world, told by celebrated writers and voiced by renowned actors. After the film, there will be a discussion with Manizha Naderi, the Executive Director of Women for Afghan Women and Stacey Scarpone, Executive Director of Women’s Fund of Long Island. Landmark on Main Street is so proud to co-present this special evening with the Women’s Fund of Long Island.

Tribute to Marian McPartland – March 22
Saturday, March 22 5pm
 
Port Washington Public Library, Landmark on Main Street, NPR, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and Marian McPartland’s family to come together to mark this occasion and celebrate her life. Jon Weber, pianist and new host of NPR’s Piano Jazz will perform and explain Marian’s style and her support for young talent. Clips from In Good Time, a film about Marian McPartland’s life will be shown by the filmmaker, Huey. The evening will also feature performances by young jazz performers. One young performer will receive a scholarship stipend from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.

This event is free and will be held at the Port Washington Public Library.
