Fifty-four Student Blood Donors Receive Scholarships

Sarasota, FL-Fifty-four high school seniors from Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto counties were recently awarded a total of $24,140 in scholarships from SunCoast Blood Bank (SCBB). SCBB is committed to cultivating the next generation of blood donors through its Generation Give (G2) scholarship program. Studies show that individuals who are introduced to the importance of donating blood at a young age are more likely to become donors for life.

Since the scholarship program began in 2006, more than $124,000 has been awarded to SCBB student blood donors and volunteers. To be eligible, a student must participate in three school blood drives their senior year, by promoting the drive, donating blood, or helping the day of the blood drive. Seniors who volunteer for SCBB in other capacities are eligible as well. For more information about scholarships and the G2 program, please visit www.scbb.org or call 1-866-97-BLOOD.
