Panos Karan, piano

Born on the island of Crete in 1982, Panos Karan was brought up in Athens where he started piano lessons at age seven. At nine, he made his debut in San Francisco. As a youth he studied at the National Conservatory of Athens.
Mr. Karan has won several top prizes in national and international competitions including the Alicia de Larrocha International Piano Competition. In 2004 he was a prizewinner at the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition, after appearing in the final round with the Valencia (Spain) Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Karan keeps a busy performing schedule in Europe and the rest of the world.
Recently he has appeared with the St. Petersburg Camerata orchestra in the Hermitage Theater, with the Orion Symphony Orchestra at the Athens Megaron Recital Hall, and in a solo recital in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. In 2007 Mr. Karan presented the complete cycle of the Beethoven Concerti with the St. John's Festival Orchestra in Great Britain. Koyinta Art E-Magazine said he shows"... explosive virtuosity ... enormous palette of emotions.. . [Panos] proved that he belongs among the top performers of his generation."
In 2000 he was invited to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he earned both Bachelor, and Master of Music degrees.
Future plans include a return recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, a recording of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto as well as appearances in the UK, USA, Russia and Greece.
