Cleveland Orchestra Miami continues tradition of Education and Community events in Miami
MIAMI – Cleveland Orchestra Miami’s 10th Anniversary Season concludes with performances on March 17, 18, and 19, 2016 led by Cleveland Orchestra Miami principal guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero.  The concerts feature the world premiere of Siklòn by Avner Dorman, commissioned for The Cleveland Orchestra by the Adrienne Arsht Center to celebrate the organizations’ ten-year partnership.  Dorman’s work will celebrate the diverse influences that comprise Miami’s musical landscape.  A native of Israel living in the United States, Dorman has written music described by The Washington Post as “… sophisticated enough to appeal to an audience of classical aficionados, and approachable enough to appeal to people who have never been to an orchestra concert.”

Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins The Cleveland Orchestra in performances of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2.    His talent for coaxing subtle and surprising colors and textures from even old favorites led The New York Times to exclaim, “… every note he fashions is a pearl … the joy, brilliance and musicality of his performance could not be missed.”   The final work on the program is Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”).

Cleveland Orchestra Miami celebrates ten seasons as a vital part of the Miami culture during the 2015-16 season. In January, the Orchestra celebrated with its first Annual Gala concert and dinner. The evening featured Music Director Franz Welser-Möst and world-renowned soprano Renée Fleming in performance with The Cleveland Orchestra at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County’s Knight Concert Hall.  A video tribute thanking the Miami community was shown at the Gala dinner at the Intercontinental following the concert.

Cleveland Orchestra Miami is celebrating 10 seasons of extraordinary music making! Thank you, Miami!

About Siklòn by Avner Dorman
About Siklòn, composer Avner Dorman says, “The work I have written for this commission refers both to the violent nature of Miami’s hurricanes, as well as the frenzy of energy that comes from a place driven by hot weather, sometimes clashing ideas, and the effervescence of youth. “Siklòn” is the Haitian Creole word for hurricane. While it evokes the image of a “cyclone” or a storm, the word is one that may be unfamiliar to many, and it calls to mind the worlds of experiences and ideas that are present in the fabric of Miami’s culture … this piece reflects how I perceive the city — joyful, passionate, and bursting with creativity.” For more information about Avner Dorman and Siklòn, visit: www.musicsalesclassical.com/composer/work/2197/56068.

FREE Community Celebration
