JUNE 15, 2015, NEW YORK: Five of today’s leading orchestras have joined forces in an unprecedented new collaboration to launch the inaugural phase of Classical Live, the first and only initiative offering current recordings exclusively on Google Play Music. Through Classical Live, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam continue to build on their legendary recording histories by sharing their newest performances directly with music lovers worldwide. With the global access and reach of Google Play Music, Classical Live aims to broaden and grow the audience for classical recordings, offering both digital downloads and streaming subscriptions in all 58 countries where the service is available at music.google.com.

Taking its cue from the golden years of recording, when producers and engineers would rush to the concert hall to capture the electricity and dynamism of an extraordinary live show, the Classical Live program makes it possible to share key recent performances with a global audience without delay, through a powerful worldwide partnership with Google Play Music. Whether highlighting an important debut, a successful world premiere, or capturing the tremendous chemistry that can spark between orchestra and conductor, these performances can now be heard throughout the world with Classical Live.

The 22 complete works and three free bonus tracks in the first Classical Live release include inaugural digital-only releases from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra, and newly available recordings from the London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The three special bonus tracks from the orchestras are available, free of charge, for a limited time.

This release represents the first phase of Classical Live. As more of the world’s leading symphony orchestras are invited to join this selective program, more recordings will be added, creating a regular schedule of exclusive international releases for digital download and streaming on Google Play Music.

Ted Kartzman, Global Head, Independent Music Companies, Google Play, comments:

“We’re honored to bring new and updated recordings from the world-renowned members of Classical Live to Google Play Music. This program allows us to offer their music to their subscribers and existing fans, as well as offering new listeners access to the latest and most exciting performances happening today.”
Jessica Lustig, Founding Partner and Managing Director of 21C Media Group and Co-Director of Classical Live, adds:
“We continue to search for innovative ways to bring new listeners to the beauty, excitement and richness enjoyed in our classical music community. With Classical Live, we aim to reach a worldwide audience with a sense of adventure and a taste for what is new, and through Google Play Music to provide these fans with the highest-quality and most inspiring performances available.”
