Chesapeake Marine Training Institute to Host Professional Mariner Job Fair and Open House December 4

Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will host a professional mariner job fair and open house December 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Hayes campus located at 3566 George Washington Memorial Highway.

Professional marine companies, including Vane Brothers Company, Dann Marine and Intracoastal Marine, will be on site to meet and interview potential job candidates.

Among the mariners the companies are seeking include wheelhouse tug operators, engineers, and tankermen.

Mariners of all license and credential levels are encouraged to attend.

Chesapeake Marine Training Institute staff and instructors will be available to work with job candidates on licensing and credentialing needs.

Mariners are encouraged to register for the free job fair here: http://www.chesapeakemarineinst.com/classdetails.aspx?classid=1243.

“We believe this event, one we’ve held three times over the course of the last two years now, is what sets us apart,” said Capt. Guy Sorensen, President and Founder of Chesapeake Marine Training Institute. “Not only are we honored to help prepare every mariner that comes through our doors with the training and education they’ll need when they are out to sea, but we want to make sure we can help place them with the companies that need them most. In this ever changing economy, the best thing we can all do is support each other.”

Marine companies interested in attending as a vendor are welcome. Hiring managers should contact Chesapeake Marine Training Institute to sign up.

Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will provide table display space for companies to meet and greet job applicants, as well as private rooms to interview potential candidates. Space to attend the event as a professional marine company is free, but limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Applicants and vendors attending the event from out of the area are eligible to use the Chesapeake Marine Training Institute rate at nearby hotels.

During the job fair, Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots is a program that spreads the joy of Christmas by collecting new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community. Applicants who bring a toy will receive a discount on a future course.

Its instructors are seasoned mariners, holding a current U.S. Coast Guard License as Master with a minimum of five years at sea experience. CMTI’s staff also includes License Consultants trained by the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center as Mariner Credentialing Agents. These agents serve as experts to help each mariner sail smoothly through their licensing application process.
