Today (8/12), the iconic guitarist, songwriter and vocalist BRIAN SETZERreleases his much-anticipated new album ROCKABILLY RIOT!: ALL ORIGINAL (Surfdog Records), a straight-ahead rockabilly album from start to finish with 12 new songs featuring SETZER’s trademark twang and fretboard fire. To coincide with today’s release, SETZER has partnered with BILLBOARD.COM to premiere the lyric video for lead single “Lemme Slide.” Check out the lyric video here: http://bit.ly/1q6JbgF and purchase a copy of ROCKABILLY RIOT!: ALL ORIGINAL in all formats here: http://bit.ly/X00NEd.

ROCKABILLY RIOT!: ALL ORIGINAL was recorded in Nashville and produced by Peter Collins with SETZER backed by three musicians he says“are the best in their craft”: Mark Winchester (bass), Kevin McKendree (piano) and Noah Levy (drums). NEWSDAY raves, “He’s at his best in ‘The Girl With the Blues in Her Eyes,’ where he channels Gene Vincent filtered through Paul McCartney for a should-be classic (8/11).” Elsewhere, Sam Gnerre of LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS (8/8) praises the album as “a state-of-the-art modern rockabilly album that’s a total blast,” while VINTAGE GUITAR(October 2014) says: “Three decades, umpteen records, and several stellar bands into his career, and Brian Setzer still makes rockabilly sound fresh and exciting…Setzer’s playing is much more complex…his fretwork has grown to include numerous other, more far-reaching influences, particularly from vintage jazz…his mature creativity and fretwork brilliance will make you a believer.”

Speaking with ESQUIRE.COM’s Dan Hyman about the new album, SETZER notes that “this one just spoke to me,” adding, “Once you get that idea of what you wanna write, you get excited about it. And once you move in that direction they do come hot and heavy. It really is a gift from somewhere. The songbird comes.” (August 11, 2014)

Praise for ROCKABILLY RIOT!: ALL ORIGINAL:

“Setzer has stayed true to the rockabilly tradition without straitjacketing himself into the era that created it.”
USATODAY.COM, July 31, 2014

“The new album…features 12 original tracks of pure retro-rock — all jangly guitars, toe-tapping rhythms and the unstoppable energy that are the hallmarks of Setzer’s twist on the ’50s genre.’

TIME.COM, June 24, 2014

“…Rockabilly Riot! is as straight-up as anything Setzer did with the Stray Cats…”

BILLBAORD.COM, August 12, 2014

“…on Rockabilly Riot! All Original (Surfdog), the Massapequa native reminds us what a crafty lyricist he is, spinning memorable rockabilly tales about the Elvis-influenced ‘Calamity Jane,’ Flatfoot Sam (who went ‘looking for a job down in Alabam’’  in ‘Vinyl Records’) and the car-obsessed narrator of ‘I Shoulda Had a V-8.’ He’s at his best in ‘The Girl With the Blues in Her Eyes,’ where he channels Gene Vincent filtered through Paul McCartney for a should-be classic.”

NEWSDAY.COM, August 11, 2014

“As might be expected from one of the most talented players on the planet, Setzer’s guitar work is stunning. He outdoes himself here in settings that favorably highlight his six-string prowess thanks to knowledgeable, sympathetic production from Peter Collins…but it’s Setzer’s guitar that really does the talking on Rockabilly Riot! All Original. What results is a state-of-the-art modern rockabilly album that’s a total blast.”

About Brian:

3-time Grammy-award-winner, Brian Setzer is a “Musician’s Musician” credited with continually taking chances with innovative and daring musical styles, while single-handedly resurrecting two forgotten genres of music (rockabilly in the ‘80’s and swing in the ’90’s).  Along the way he has scored chart-topping hits throughout his decorated career as founder/leader of the Stray Cats, his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, and as a solo artist. He is consistently cited as one of the world’s greatest living guitarists, and has a best-selling, extensive line of elite Gretsch signature model guitars bearing his name. Brian appeared in the 1987 film, La Bamba (the biographical film written following the life and career of Chicano rock ‘n’ roll star Ritchie Valens), portraying rockabilly pioneer Eddie Cochran. In 2002, Brian earned the distinct honor of being one of the few musicians to be animated in an episode of “The Simpsons,” an episode which also featured rock ‘n’ roll legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
