“BOXEO TELEMUNDO FORD” KICKS OFF ITS 2014 SUMMER SEASON DELIVERING ITS #1 TELECAST IN HISTORY WITH 641,000 TOTAL VIEWERS
Miami – July 25 – “Boxeo Telemundo Ford,” the longest-running boxing program on US Spanish-language television, started its 2014 summer season with its most-watched telecast in its history, delivering 641,000 total viewers on Friday, July 18 at 11:35PM ET, according to Nielsen. The battle between Jonathan “Pitbull” Vidal of Puerto Rico and Mexico’s Juan “Loquito” Kantún for the World Boxing Organization’s Latin Super Flyweight title also became the #1 boxing telecast on television for the week of July 14 in total viewers. The fight called by René Giraldo and Jessi Losada also averaged 294,000 adults 18-49, making it the best delivery in the demo in six years.
“Boxeo Telemundo Ford” will continue its second season of 2014 today, Friday, July 25 at 11:35PM ET/10:35 CT, with a fight between Mexican boxers David “Severo” Carmona and Ricardo “Meserito” Rodriguez, for the WBO Youth Super Flyweight title.
“Boxeo Telemundo Ford” was launched in 1989 with hosts Tony Tirado and the unforgettable triple world champ from Nicaragua, Alexis Arguello. Boxing expert Rene Giraldo joined the team that same year, followed in 1999 by acclaimed sportscaster and commentator Jessi Losada. Giraldo and Losada, the longest-serving boxing narrator/commentator duo on US Spanish-language television, are the current hosts alongside reporters Kaziro Aoyama and Ana Jurka. “Boxeo Telemundo Ford” has showcased 55 world champions in the last quarter century, including Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr., Jose “Carita” Lopez, Oscar “Chololo” Larios, Ulises “Archie” Solis and Carlos Maussa, earning a reputation as the show “where champions are born.”
