Long Beach, CA
The official video for “We Could Run,” the new single from Beth Ditto’s debut solo album, Fake Sugar (Virgin Records), was released today and can be seen HERE. The clip was directed by Mark Staubach (Trevor McCoy/Bruno Mars, Simple Plan, Charlie Puth).
“On television kings and queens/Live the lives of people’s dreams/You and I are human beings/Living breathing things,” Ditto sings as the video follows two girls embarking on a day of adventure in their small town.
Ditto will perform on Sunday, August 13, at the KNDD 107.7 The End Show in Seattle, WA. She’ll wrap up her summer tour on August 19 with a performance at ALT98.7 Summer Camp at the Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach, CA.
Paper christened Ditto “rock’s homecoming queen” in this online cover story, going on to note, “Fake Sugar…is a swan song to Ditto’s humble Arkansan roots, and a special tribute to her fans and to her late father…The rootsy, soulful influences of the music Ditto heard as a child are scattered throughout Fake Sugar: from the sublimely catchy ‘In and Out’ to the simmering jazzy sensuality of ‘Fire’ to the dynamic, bring-down-the-house key changes of ‘Lover’…”
The New York Times praised the”powerhouse singer and feminist glamazon” and People highlighted Fake Sugar as one of its “Picks,” observing, “Whether it’s a glittering stomper (‘Oo La La’) or stripped-down Stevie Nicks homage (the title track), Ditto shines throughout, making Fake Sugar a sweet treat.” Vulture named the first single “Fire,”asone of the best songs of the week and New York Magazinesaid, “This Song Was Made for Struttin.'”

In addition to releasing six acclaimed albums with the Gossip, Ditto has recorded with such artists as Blondie and disco legend Cerrone, collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier on her eponymous plus-sized luxury clothing line, modeled for Marc Jacobs and appeared in Tom Ford’s Oscar-nominated film, Nocturnal Animals.
