Be Free on a Summer Day at SCD’s Free Day of Dance, August 18th
“Day of Dance” with Sarasota Contemporary Dance is a FREE fun-filled summer event full of dance activities. The event will take place 10:30 am – 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 18, at the company’s recently opened 3,000 square-foot studio at 1400 Blvd of the Arts, Suite 300 in Sarasota’s downtown Rosemary District.
SCD Day of Dance is the company’s unique take on the open house, where the community is invited to share the joy of dance, meet company members, and preview the exciting performances planned for the 2018-19 regular season – SCD’s 13th Season. This multi-generational event will be a celebration through a variety of activities, from pop-up performances to mini dance classes throughout the day. The event is free and open to the public; no reservations or dance experience are necessary.
This August 18th event is “one small–yet heartfelt–step toward fulfilling my vision for our home, to be a place that provides dance opportunities to professional dancers, the trainee, and all who seek to experience quality dance and teaching artists”, said Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, SCD Artistic Director. “It is my wish that a day of dance that is free and open to all will bring together people of all ages and walks of like, and cultivate a tangible exchange of ideas. For our company it’s a time to meet our neighbors and our larger community through the best way we know how–through dance,” she stated. “We also want to expose dance to those who may be new to it.”
