Several auditions coming soon to Venice Theatre
DIRECTORS BRAD WAGES AND KELLY WYNN WOODLAND SEEKING PERFORMERS
Venice, FL, Sept. 19,  2016 – Auditions for The Silver Foxes senior theatre troupe; the wild musical Six Women With Brain Death or Expiring Minds Want to Know; and the crowd-pleasing MainStage musical Sister Act will be held in the next few weeks at Venice Theatre located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. in Venice.
First up is Six Women With Brain Death or Expiring Minds Want to Know, directed by Kelly Wynn Woodland with music direction by Eli Schildkraut. Auditions for this audacious musical are Sunday Sept. 25 and Monday Sept. 26, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The show runs in the Pinkerton Theatre Dec. 2 – 18, 2016. Woodland is seeking six or more actor/singers who are “willing to be truly outlandish.” She will consider women and men willing to play women. Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a song that is upbeat and unusual and bring sheet music for the accompanist. No monologue is required.

Next are auditions for The Silver Foxes. This 55 and up performance troupe is seeking singers, dancers and actors. Under the direction of award-winning actor, director and choreographer, Brad Wages, each year The Silver Foxes bring their musical variety show to venues throughout the area from November to April.  In March, they present their annual show on Venice Theatre’s MainStage for five performances. This season’s dates are March 30 – April 2, 2017. Audition information follows.
 
Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 from 9 a.m. to Noon, auditions for singers will be held.
Singers should come prepared to sing 16-32 bars and bring sheet music for the accompanist. Instrumental sound tracks may also be used. Singers meet on Mondays at the theatre from 9 a.m. to Noon.
Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., dancer auditions will be held.
Dancers should bring tap shoes and be prepared to learn a combination to be performed for the tap choreographer. Previous tap experience is required. Dancers meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the theatre from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. Dancers should plan on spending approximately $200 per season on costumes.
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 from 9 a.m. to Noon, auditions for actors will be held.
Actors should be prepared to read a short monologue lasting no more than one minute. Memorized monologues are also acceptable. Actors meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the theatre from 9:30 a.m. to Noon.
In addition to the weekly meetings held by each group of performers, the full troupe has scheduled rehearsals together throughout the season.
Opportunities also exist to assist behind the scenes in areas such as technical support, show production, and back stage running crew.

Auditions for Sister Act, also directed by Brad Wages, with music direction by Rick Bogner, are Sunday Oct. 9 and Monday Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The show runs on the theatre’s MainStage Jan. 10 to Feb. 5, 2017.
The lead role of “disco diva” Deloris Van Cartier has been cast. The following roles are available: Mother Superior, five featured nuns, Deloris’ two back-up singers, five gangsters, the Monsignor of the convent, and Eddie Souther, the desk chief at the Philadelphia police station. Ensemble members are also needed to play nuns, bar denizens, homeless people, and fantasy dancers. Detailed character descriptions will be available at www.venicestage.com/audition.

Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a song and bring sheet music for the accompanist. They should also be prepared to read from the script and dress comfortably for the dance portion of the audition. No monologue is required.
