(Sarasota, FL)—At Florida Studio Theatre, the full theatrical experience doesn’t end with the final curtain call. Beginning on November 15, FST’s Green Room will remain open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 9pm to 12am. Green Room Late Nights provide a warm and inviting atmosphere to relax and enjoy the theatre even after the performance has ended. FST’s full bar is available, along with an after-hours menu. To celebrate the opening of Green Room Late Nights, FST is offering a 2-4-1 discount to performers, crew, and staff of local arts organizations with proof of involvement in a currently running show. For more information, please visit floridastudiotheatre.org or call the box office at 941-366-9000.

Throughout history, notable haunts like Café Montmartre and Harry’s New York Bar were a common meeting place for artists and art enthusiasts to socialize and relax in a creative and welcoming environment. Continuing this tradition, FST’s Green Room now offers a laid back atmosphere for theatre artists and patrons alike to enjoy great conversation and great company. Whether it is after a soul-stirring drama, a toe-tapping musical revue, or a
side-splitting FST Improv performance, the Green Room is the next social after-hours destination for all.

FST is the theatre where the street meets the elite, where everyone is welcome to come and engage in the art of theatre. FST Artistic Director Richard Hopkins speaks to this new extension of the theatrical experience stating, “At last! We are opening the Green Room for late nights. It’s been percolating in my mind for many years now: a place where the audience can come together after shows to mingle with the artists and all the people who love theatre and make theatre happen. It promises to be a bohemian atmosphere, created every Friday and Saturday night by the people who attend. It’s a place to meet, drink, nosh, and argue. There may be spontaneous entertainment. There may not. One never knows. Do they?”

As it coincides with the opening of Hairspray, this inaugural Green Room Late Night will be one not to miss. The cast of this rousing musical, along with members of the FST staff and crew, will be in attendance as they celebrate the start of the Mainstage season. It will be a night of big hair, great music, delicious food and drink, and of course, fun and funky theatre.

about Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
