ASPEN, Colo.This winter the Aspen Music Festival and School brings three star-studded classical music recitals to the acoustically rich Harris Concert Hall. The concerts will be presented in addition to the Festival’s curated screenings of Metropolitan Opera performances, The Met: Live in HD, at the Wheeler Opera House.

 

The 2016 Winter Music series kicks off Tuesday, February 2, with two of the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today, and close Aspen friends, cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han. The Romantic program features R. Strauss’s Cello Sonata in F major, op. 6, Grieg’s Cello Sonata in A minor, op. 36, Mendelssohn’s Song without Words for Cello and Piano, op. 109, and Chopin’s Cello Sonata in G minor, op. 65.
Aspen alumna Sarah Chang takes the Harris Concert Hall stage, Thursday, February 11. Recognized as one of the world’s great violinists, her recital of large Romantic works includes Bartók’s Romania Folk Dances, BB 76; Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, op. 108; Franck’s Violin Sonata in A major, M. 8; and Ravel’s Tzigane, rapsodie de concert. The series will wrap up on Saturday, March 12, with a visit from amazing talents from the renowned Curtis Institute of Music, including the Aizuri Quartet alongside Michael Rusinek, principal clarinet for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Curtis and Aspen faculty member. The evening features a new work for string quartet; Sibelius’ String Quartet in D minor, op. 56, “Voces intimae;” and Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581.
