Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota Announces

Appointment of Mary Elizabeth Carey as Board Chair

(Sarasota, Florida) John Fischer, executive director of the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, announced today that Mary Elizabeth Carey has been appointed as chair of the organization’s board of trustees.

“As a member of the Artist Series’ board for the past four years, Mary Elizabeth’s presence has been strongly felt,’ says Fischer. “She offers both her passion for music and her extensive management expertise in support of the ever-growing activities of Artist Series Concerts. To quote Mary Elizabeth, ‘Artist Series Concerts is one of the finest cultural treasures in all of southwest Florida.’”

Carey served as manager of the Exxon Corporation’s Expatriate Center, which administered more than 1,500 American employees on assignment in over 60 countries. The center also managed foreign personnel from 20 nations on assignment in the United States. In the course of her career, Carey visited and/or was assigned to more than 20 foreign countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Singapore, Libya, and countries in western Europe. She also assisted in establishing an Exxon headquarters in Moscow.

Following her move to Longboat Key in 2000, Carey served as president of the Women’s Guild of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church. She also served on the board of the Sarasota Opera Guild; and was director of the Northern Deanery of the Venice Diocese of the Council of Catholic Women. Carey has been a volunteer at the Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota was formed in 1996 as the Artist Series of Sarasota. The group is a non-profit corporation based in Sarasota, FL, that prides itself on presenting several major national and international varieties of concert, opera, orchestral, Broadway and film performances throughout their season. The majority of the performances are staged at the restored Historic Asolo Theater at The Ringling.
