Dance Couture with Fuzion Dance Artists

corner

Fuzion Dance Artists, Sarasota’s cutting-edge contemporary dance company, will present its 8th annual concert, Dance Couture: Art Meets Dance, from March 13-16, 2014, at the Jane B. Cook Theater at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL.

The title of the March program derives from its relationship to visual art and design. A select group of iConcept designers from Art Center Sarasota are creating original costumes for the production.

“I am excited about this season’s annual performance not only because of the diverse and entertaining choreography created by our guest artists, but also for the opportunity to revisit Dreamfall, a piece that feels even more powerful in its refined state,” comments Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, artistic director.

Israel Exhibit

Art Center Sarasota will present a group exhibition entitled “Confluence: Israel,” showcasing works by emerging and established Israeli artists. This exhibit opens March 13, 2014, and runs through April 25, 2014. This exhibition evolved from a partnership with The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee.

“It will be the first exhibition of its kind in our area,” Lisa Berger, executive director, says. “The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee has wanted to produce an exhibition of art by artists living and working in Israel for a long time. We’re thrilled to help make it happen.” She explains that her team worked closely with Shosh Dagan, a prominent Israeli curator, to showcase the up-and-coming generation of innovative Israeli artists working in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, woodwork, video, jewelry and embroidery.

“Confluence: Israel” runs concurrently with three other exhibits: The Secret Life of Jewelry,” featuring fine art jewelry; “MASHterpieces,” showcasing repurposed, donated artwork in collaboration with Goodwill Manasota and ThisWeekinSarasota.com; and “One World,” an open, all-media, juried exhibition. The opening reception for all of the exhibits is March 13, 5-7 p.m.

ArtSlam

The fourth annual ArtSlam, a celebration of the arts featuring dozens of artists, musicians, performers, installation art, and interactive art experiences, will be the biggest ever! Don’t miss this special event in downtown Bradenton, Saturday, March 8 from 12pm-10pm.

“It will be a full-on sensory explosion with more than 25 artistic teams and 10 bands,” says Realize Bradenton‘s executive director, Johnette Isham, explaining that the family-friendly festival features multiple teams of artists offering interactive creative projects, local bands, random acts of art, video art, and even an eco-friendly labyrinth. “It’s largely interactive with plenty of opportunities for audiences to become part of the creative process,” says Isham.

ArtSlam installations will be created “live” along Old Main Street. “Because there is no set theme, collaborative teams will creatively use existing streetscape sites while engaging the general public in brief contemporary art experiences,” she says.

Hans’ dynamic, large-scale paintings bring a wild, otherworldly beauty to Sarasota.
