(Sarasota, FL) —American Pie is a hit! Due to popular demand, FST announces the extension of its second show of the Winter Cabaret season. Developed by Richard Hopkins and Rebecca Hopkins, the show runs in Florida Studio Theatre’s Goldstein Cabaret through May 2, 2015. Single tickets are $32-$36 and may be purchased online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or by visiting the Box Office.

This rock and roll infused production highlights some of America’s greatest storytellers. A lyrical preservation of American social and political culture, songs like “Teach Your Children,” “Cecilia,” and “It’s Still Rock N Roll to Me” have kept audiences dancing in their seats night after night. Capturing a time in their own personal history, audiences can’t help but sing along. Returning cast member Sarah Hund comments further stating, “The show features some truly incredible songwriters. One of my favorite parts of the show is hearing the audience sing-along with so many of the songs. You can feel the memories rushing back in.”

Critics have agreed when describing this groovy guitar show. The Observer said it is, “A slice of sixties song served hot.” The Venice Gondolier says it is “Lively…and richly entertaining.”

Not only do the actors perform these memorable melodies, but they also dig deeper into the meaning behind the lyrics. For the first time in American history, singer-songwriters had emerged with voices that sparked real change and a renewed spirit of the people. Returning cast member Joe Casey speaks to this energy that is still present in today’s audiences stating, “You can see and hear the people and really feel their energy. It flows from our audience members up on the stage to us and we do feel it.”

American Pie features the intimate and infectious sounds of some of America’s greatest songwriters. Now playing through May 2, 2015, single tickets are $32-$36 and may be purchased online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or by visiting the Box Office.

About Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience.  FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world.  As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
