Amarillo Symphony Season Premieres with Triumph on September 19 & 20

90th Anniversary season features world premiere performances and world renowned artists.

AMARILLO, TEXAS – (September 8, 2014) – The Amarillo Symphony, (www.amarillosymphony.org), the leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, today announces the return of Grammy Award winning classical pianist Garrick Ohlsson and also the premiere of a commissioned piece by composer in residence Chris Rogerson in conjunction with the opening of its 90th Anniversary season of celebration on September 19th and 20th.

“The Amarillo Symphony celebrates the return back to Amarillo 32 years in the making of one of the most celebrated and important artists of our time,” said Jacomo Rafael Bairos, Music Director and Conductor. “Garrick Ohlsson puts his full technical prowess on display for what has been coined the most difficult concerto ever written for piano, Rachmaninoff’s powerful Concerto No. 3. Join us for Triumph, an observance of the last 90 years, and a celebration toward the next 90.”

In celebration of the 90th Anniversary season, the Amarillo Symphony commissioned a piece by composer in residence Chris Rogerson, which will be premiered this September at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Rogerson composed “The Way Through” to celebrate the tough, independent yet progressive spirit that has enabled the Amarillo Symphony to reach this 90th pinnacle. Chris Rogerson has been praised for his music’s “virtuosic exuberance” and “haunting beauty.”

The Amarillo Symphony is thrilled to present Triumph to the Amarillo community. This 90th Anniversary is an incredible milestone and is a testament to the dedication, love, support and passion that the Amarillo community shares for the Arts. Without our amazing supporters, patrons and community leaders, giving the Amarillo Symphony their heart and soul for nearly a century, the organization would not be here to continue presenting not only the most beloved classics of all time, but thrilling new concert experiences as well.

Single tickets are available for $15, $30 or $45 plus applicable fees. Season subscriptions are still available for the seven concert series starting at only $98. You can purchase single tickets on our website at www.amarillosymphony.org or call us at (806) 376-8782 to reserve your season subscription.
