Four Decades of Artistic Imagery Comes to Safety Harbor

An artistic diversity that has defined American Art: Captured by the Artist who began a new visual Culture

This brand new series entitled “Marilyn” are signed by both Peter Max and Joshua Greene, son of Milton Greene, Photographer of Marilyn Monroe

This electrifying series are one-of-a-kind new works of Miss Monroe.  In each painting Max uses an iconic photograph of this Hollywood legend taken by the great fashion photographer Milton Greene, whose well-known friendship with Monroe produced these gorgeous photographs. The Artist brings his unique colors and brushstrokes to this new body of work, dramatically lighting up and bringing a whole new perspective to Greene’s renowned images.

Safety Harbor, Fla. – (February 2014) – A never-before-seen collection by artist legend, Peter Max’s exquisite paintings will be on exhibition and available for acquisition at Syd Entel Galleries in Safety Harbor.   The Artist has assembled a collection of his greatest and most-revered imagery spanning four decades: from his iconic Pop Art designs commemorating Woodstock to the 2013 unveiling of Max’s design for the cruise ship Breakaway.  This new exhibition speaks to the evolution and maturation of America’s most popular living Artist.  This presentation will also include the Artists’ latest series “Marilyn”, four magnificent original works that literally leave one “breathless”.

This carefully curated collection is a museum-like retrospective of Max’s works:  Peter Max has painted for five U.S. Presidents and his art is on display in Presidential Libraries and in U.S. Embassies across the globe.   He has been the Official Artist of 5 NFL Super Bowls, the 2006 Olympics, the World Cup USA, The World Series, The U.S. Open, The Indy 500, The NYC Marathon and The Kentucky Derby.

This new Retrospective is a journey through his extraordinary and distinguished career, so well captured by the quote below:

Just as Toulouse-Lautrec captured the imagination of late 19-century Paris with his posters, Max led the international youth movement of the Sixties into a new visual culture.”   ~ Charles Riley III

Peter Max emerged as a powerful force in the Art World from the prestigious Art Students League, alongside such Artists as Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollack, Cy Twombly and Norman Rockwell.  The League was a formative influence on these artists’ innovative artwork, and has led each and every one to greatness and an important legacy in history Max’s Art Students League scholarly influence inspired all of his extraordinary artwork, and of late, his new Masters series; his interpretive works of Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Pablo Picasso, Renoir, and Edgar Degas, conceived in Max’s signature style and colors. These works speak to both a maturation of the Artists’ illustrious career, as well as to his formidable training at the 130 year old Art Students League of New York.

Exhibit previews begin Saturday, March 29th, 2014 and the exhibition extends through Sunday, April 6th, 2014. Peter Max will be making two very special appearances at Syd Entel Galleries on Saturday, April 5th  and Sunday, April 6th, 2014.
