92Y – Buttenwieser Hall

Young Israeli artists Asi Matathias and Victor Stanislavsky make their 92nd Street Y debuts in the intimate Buttenwieser Hall as part of the Soundspace series.  Mr. Matathias was 14 when he debuted with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, and he has since performed with great orchestras around the world to critical acclaim: “Matathias created magic with an immense richness of sound and colors” (Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger).  Matathias, who studied under the tutelage of Pinchas Zukerman while a student at the Manhattan School of Music, has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Mann Auditorium in Tel Aviv and Izumi Hall in Osaka.   Pianist Victor Stanislavsky was the 1st Prize recipient of the Aviv Competition in Israel and performs globally as a soloist with orchestras and a recitalist on many of the world’s most prestigious stages.  The duo presents a program of Bloch, Stravinsky, Saint-Saёns, and the world premiere of a new work by Chanson Goldschmitz, commissioned by 92Y.

92Y – Kaufmann Concert Hall

Following their successful 92nd Street Y debut last season, The New York Times praised the Pacifica Quartet: “Their alluring sound proved breathtaking…spine-tingling intensity.” On January 24, the Quartet returns to 92Y with a varied program that includes Haydn’s G Major String Quartet, one of his final and most exciting works, as well as Jörg Widmann’s “endearingly peculiar, era-hopping” (The New York Times) “Hunt” Quartet; the Quartet and Widmann conclude with Brahms’s evocative Clarinet Quintet.  Widmann, one of 92Y’s best-loved artists, speaks about the artistic experience as a clarinetist and composer in these 92Y videos:
